I am suddenly unable to print using my network printer, a Brother HL2070N. Prior to this problem I had been printing with this printer for about three years with no problem.
I'm unsure as to what might have suddenly caused this problem. Some possibilities -- I recently returned from a trip abroad (though I did not mess with any of my settings there); the toner light on the printer came on, so I took out the the toner cartridge and shook it until it would print again, and put it back in.
Upon trying to print again, I found that my print jobs were getting stuck at random percentages. Restarting print jobs or my computer did not help. Therefore I tried to reinstall the print driver. I deleted what "Brother" files I could find on my computer, and followed the instructions that accompanied the printer. As far as I can tell, the print drivers were reinstalled successfully (they can be found in ~/Library/Printers). The next step in the manual tells me to add the printer using Printer Setup, and this is where I get stuck. It can't find my printer automatically in the "Default Browser" pane, and if I click the plus sign to add a printer, no Bonjour or Rendezvous item appears in the drop-down menu (I only see AppleTalk, Bluetooth, and Windows Printing). Is this a problem with the printer, the network cable (which has not malfunctioned before), or my Mac? I'm not even sure if my Mac even has Bonjour or Rendezvous, but isn't that how I was able to print before?
I have already tried the "Reset Printing System" option on the advice of this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=145903. I've also restarted my computer multiple times, repaired permissions, etc.
I am using Mac OS X 10.4.11, and I haven't recently performed any system updates.
