Can't boot my titanium powerbook. 10.5.8. Running fine then 3 days ago wouldn't wake from sleep. Need to recover some files and application preferences/settings/etc. (Mail, Safari, and MS Word files) primarily that weren't backed up. Can't get past gray Apple screen.
This is what I've tried:
1-reboots
2-zap pram
3-reset power manager
4-tried booting from system 10.5 system disks
5-ran disk utiltiy from 10.5 disks
6-tried 'archive and install' but it fails
7-visited apple genius who ran disk warrior (drive was 'fragmented' but fine), tried 'archive and install' (failed for him too). He concluded RAM was bad.
8-went home and reseated ram modules, tried using only 1 then the other, etc. and finally reinstalled original modules. nothing worked.
more info:
9-the computer WILL boot up to an old OS 9 system on the computer.
10-my files were protected by file vault.
11-the drive can be accessed in target mode.
what do i do from here? Can I recover the files I need? is being able to boot into os9 any help? etc..!!!????
