can't burn a CD/DVD

Along with many others I get the ox8002006D message when I try to burn a CD
G5, OS 10.4.11
Toast Lite (v6) also goes through a list of error messages
Many forums say 'buy an external burner' but Mac ought to be OK?

Two things come to mind:
1) Macs are somewhat finikey as to CD/DVD brands. Try another.
2) It's not unheard of for a Mac burner to get dirty &/or 'crap out'. Try a cleaning disk if a slot loader or lint free rag with alcohol if a tray loader.

Replacement Superdrives are fairly reasonable these days, but an external would be more efficient (faster)

I suffered the same problem and found out that a nice external drive is FAR cheaper and better than the SuperDrive. Yes . . . I know . . . the idea of having a laptop that can "do everything" is a comforting feeling, but you can get three good drives for the price of an internal that may only last you for a year. Seriously.
