I installed the freeware programs - with their associated files for GRASS GIS - it changed the terminal shell settings I have since deleted all the files - following the instructions - but the shell settings persist - and the same for what appears in X11 - I can't seem to find the file change the preferences so I just get back to a *normal* terminal - Instead I see this:

Mapset <> in Location <>
GRASS 5.3-cvs >

That's it other than a short Welcome to Darwin!

Any ideas on where that file is that i can edit?

use the terminal, and list all the files in your home directory (do an "ls -la")

look at the ones with a "." as the first character.

Okay - I found 3 *offending* files -
-rw-rw-rw- 1 user staff 4 31 Mar 23:07 .gislock5
-rw-rw-rw- 1 user staff 4 14 Mar 10:41 .gislock57
-rw-rw-rw- 1 user staff 2025 17 Mar 00:03 .tcltkgrass

But if I try to rm any of them it say they don't exist -

*No such file or directory*

hmmm....
