Can't Connect to WEP

Hi

I'm running Mac OS X, Version 10.6.2 on a MacBook. I upgraded to Snow Leopard a few months ago with no wifi related problems.

I came home for Christmas and joined my parents' wifi with no problems using the same network connection I've used before. Yesterday I was accessing it fine, I shut the Macbook and left it in sleep mode for a couple of hours, and when I re-opened it, it could see the network, but it refused to connect.

I can access the router without any issues via the ethernet, and I can access a nearby unsecured network, so the issue is with accessing this network, although another Macbook (running Leopard) and two Windows computers can still access it.

If I try and connect to the network it prompts me for the password (which it doesn't normally do) and then says connection timeout. If I try and create a new network connection via 'assist me' in System Preferences then it says the password is invalid (I've checked, it's not).

I've trawled the message boards and tried various suggestions such as deactivating AirPort and setting up a new network connection without Assist Me, and we've restarted the router. I haven't been able to try switching to WPA as it's not my network.

If there are any suggestions, please let me know. I'm, for my sins, more familiar with Windows, so if there's anything tricky I'd really appreciate a novice-level set of instructions!

Many thanks
Kate
