Cant copy files from cd or dvd to deskto

Hi, this morning I updated my G5 mac with one of the updates called the Migration and DVD/CD sharing update from the mac website.
Now I cant seem to transfer files from either a cd or dvd.
I can open the files from the disc but cant copy files to the desktop.
Please advise on how this can be fixed.
