Can't delete files.

I've got a couple of files on my desktop that my system (OS 10.2.8) won't let me delete. They are incomplete software (.sit files) that crashed my browser mid download. When i try and put them in the trash I get an error message that says they are being used by a task and so can't be moved to the trash. I have quit all applications and tried restarting (and rebuilding the PRAM) but still can't get rid of them. They aren't doing any harm it's just f***ing irritating that I can't get rid of them!!! :mad:

Anyone got any suggestions?

thanks for the link, only problem is i can't actually get the files in the trash in the first place.

Open a Terminal window (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
Type "rm" and a blank space
drag one of the items into the window: the path and filename should compare in the window
press enter

If this doesn't work because of access privileges, try "sudo rm" which will ask for your administrator password.

Magic that got rid of the little fellas! Didn't understand what you told me to do one bit, but it worked a treat.

Thank you!
