Can't duplicate home DVD. What am I doing wrong?

I figured this out, but can't find how to delete the question.
I simply used TOAST and found I was't choosing "From DVD- Video_TS" This worked perfectly.

Okay, this is getting frustrating. I'm not trying to duplicate a copy protected DVD. I'm simply trying to copy a DVD to share with a friend. I made the original on a Sony +R and it plays fine. I have tried Handbrake, MacTheRipper, disk utility and simply burning the audio_TS and video_TS to another disk. The copy is a memorex. At first I though maybe it was -R and +R issues, but they are both +Rs; the only thing I can think of now is that it is the mfr. I haven't attempted another Sony dub. I wanted to write here first before wasting another disk.

When I try to play the disk in the disk player (NOT the computer), the disk either spins spins spins and nothing happens, or the last burn, where I burned the Audio and Video TS files directly, I get a picture that runs for 2 seconds, stops. Runs for 2 seconds. Stops. The disk seems to plays okay in the computer, but the disk player does not automatically launch. I have to open the disk and choose the Video_TS file, then it plays.

What am I doing wrong?

I am in Snow Leopard.

If the DVD is not copy protected, then you can use Disk Utility to make a copy of the DVD.

Pop the DVD in the drive and launch Disk Utility.

Select "New Image from Device..." and select your DVD drive. Select "CD/DVD Master" for the image type, and choose a place to save it.

Once Disk Utility has finished making the image, pop in a blank DVD-R or DVD+R. If the disk image doesn't already appear in Disk Utility's left-hand sidebar, drag it in there. Highlight the image and clock "Burn."

That should make you an identical copy of the DVD that should be playable in a standalone DVD player, provided the original is playable in a standalone DVD player.

Thanks, El, but that's where I started. It might have been a glitchy Memorex DVD (it is one of the reasons they are so cheap these days). And, it could be the player too. They don't always play nice either.

I went through four or five disks with various programs (Disk Utility, Toast, MacTheRipper, etc). And the first time I used Toast I think I chose the process where it just plays on a computer, because it was fine on the MAC, but wouldn't play on the player.

What I ended up doing is launching Toast, and choosing the make DVD with Video_TS only. Dragged it into the drop down window and the DVD burned fine...and played fine. Yes, it isn't copy-protected. It is a home movie from imovie, burned using iDVD. Wanted to then copy that DVD to share with a friend at Thanksgiving. I'll just use Toast from now on; maybe more stable for various players. Thanks for the quick response.
