Can't Eject a Bootable Disk Warrior CD

Hi,

I recently used DiskWarrior 4.1 (with Tiger) to check the disk of a Leopard Intel IMac.

All went well, but when I tried to restart and eject the Disk Warrior CD (by holding down the mouse button), the CD would not eject, the Mac restarted with Disk Warrior as the start-up volume.

It seems like it thinks the CD is the start-up disk. I tried the eject button too (at start-up).

I tied resetting the SMC with unplugging the power and cables, no luck either.

Also tried to reset PRAM (several times), but no luck. Anyone got any ideas?

Something got whacko! Go to System Preferences-->Startup Disk and select your HD & restart. You can then hold down the mouse button while restarting or just wait until it's started up & drag DW to the trash, which will eject it.

Attempting to rebuild the directory on my hard drive (G5 iMac - not Intel) in OS 10.4.11 but it stopped in the middle, saying it couldn't rebuild. My hard drive doesn't show up on the desktop.
I can't get to disk utility to change the start up disk and everytime I quit Disk Warrior, it restarts the computer, but uses the bootable disk as the start up.
How can I remove the bootable disk and use my computer?

Hold your Option key as you restart. Choose your hard drive from the screen that appears - by selecting the icon for your drive. Then click the right-facing arrow.

OK - I tried holding the option key down and got as far as choosing the hard drive, but when I clicked on the right facing arrow, my cursor disappeared and nothing else happened. I waited several minutes but nothing happened. The fan was running quite loudly. So I held down the power button and shut down, thinking perhaps on another restart try, it would find the hard drive. Wrong. It started from the Disk Warrior bootable disk again.
So I tried to rebuild the directory again... and it said it couldn't rebuild because of a Mac OS services failure.
When I try to get a preview, it says "Disk Warrior encountered a problem because of an unexpected error (2160, 2304) Then it tells me to restart from the Disk Warrior Disk again and try again to rebuild the directory...

I just shut it down for the night and will try the "option" option again in the a.m. Do I just need to be more patient and wait longer after clicking on the right facing arrow?

It seems a good night's sleep was needed to recognize the hard drive as the start up disk. I can now work on my G5. Now my concerns are 2-fold:
1. I can't get the disk to eject - when I either drag to the trash or push the eject button, it sounds like it will be ejecting, but nothing comes out of the slot, and eventually, the icon shows up on the desktop again.
AND
2. When I used Disk Warrior to graph the hard drive for the need to rebuild, it was pretty clear that there is a need to rebuild. I'm reluctant to use that Disk Warrior bootable disk again and am wondering: How critical is it to rebuild the directory? and Is there a more reliable way to do so?
Thanks so much for your help!

Restart your iMac while holding your mouse button down. The disk should eject shortly after the screen lights up. If that doesn't happen, let your iMac boot up completely, then press the eject button, watching the CD slot. Do you see any part of the disk appear, then get sucked back in? Sometimes you can catch that edge, and gently urge the disk out. If nothing appears through the slot, the disk may have to be manually removed. That means disassembling the computer, removing the optical drive, and taking the top cover off of the drive itself to retrieve the CD.
This process is not complicated, unless you have an iMac G5 with the built-in camera. In that case, take to a service center for repairs.

After I posted, I took another close look and noticed that the case of the computer was not put back together tightly enough after a tech had added some memory last week. When I squeezed it into place the way it should have been, the disc popped right out.
Do you think that may have had anything to do with the Disk Warrior software not being able to function properly?

Thanks again.

I just spent an hour trying to get the Disk Warrior ejected. I found that by plugging my mouse directly into my computer rather than the keyboard, that holding down mouse at startup worked.

Holding down Option key, trying to zap pram, unplugging computer, using the eject key all failed.

Thankyou Dianeoforegon..

I had tried everything else I could think of short of dismantling the imac just to get to the disk and when i read your post I went straight over and plugged the mouse into the actual computer and restarted it as you suggested and held down mouse button and voila...

I wonder why it couldnt do it from the keyboard??? but now it doesnt matter.. I wont have to tell my son that i broke his computer.. he would have been really unhappy with me for that... so big smiles all around... :))):D
