can't get Yahoo Msgr installer to start

kind a dumb: I don't know how to get the binary installer from Yahoo Messenger to start: "double-clicking", as Yahoo tells me, just don't work.

on Linux, I would make the file executable, and run it as root. is that the trick?
 
What file extension does the Yahoo Messenger installer have?
What error messages are you getting?
