can't insert cd

all of a sudden my ibook g4 will not allow me to insert a cd anymore. i feel as though there is a block in the hardware that won't let the cd enter. i have tried shutting the computer down, restarting with mouse held down, writing in terminal: drutil tray close. nothing works.
is this a mechanical failure and there is nothing else to do but bring it in for repairs or do i have other options left?

Holding the mouse button while rebooting will attempt to eject any CD that's in there. That action might clear it. If it doesn't then, I'm afraid, it's a repair job.
