Can't mount .dmg's!

Hello,

Just installed tiger on my powerbook by doing a clean install. All went fine until I tried to install my first app - Logic. Double-clicking to mount the dmg image did nothing until eventually given the message "Device not configured".
I thought it might've been that my dmg was funny so I tried another, Transmit. Again, nothing then the same message.

Please help! Should I chance it with another clean install?

I've had an error message saying can't mount, image is a folder once, but it seemed to go away after a reboot.
 
Reboot, try creating another user (to find out whether it's something with prefs-files) and in the worst case: Reinstall.
