Can't Open HD Folder!

I am running an eMac with 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, with 512 MB Ram. I recently tried to open my HD folder, and I got the following message:

Item "Macintosh HD" is used by Mac OS X and cannot be opened.

Also, my computer's not recognizing my Lacie firewire drive. I went to disk utility and it appears there, just not on the desktop. Help!

First, go to Disk Utility, click on the second icon in the list - your Macintosh HD - and repair permissions. - Make sure you are set as the Admin user in Accounts (system preferences). That should correct the problem with opening your hard drive.

As for the firewire drive... go to the File menu and select Preferences. Under the general icon click the show these items hard drive and CD, DVD, etc.
