Bring me Tiger!
Hello!

I recently did a clean installation of my retail panther, in the beginning Mail.app worked just fine but then some day it stopped recieveing mails. I can't figure out what's wrong. I've had this problem before.

Anyone who got the same problem? Would be very pleased with some tips or anything to get it running again. :confused:

Cheers! :p

Check out the activity monitor in Mail.app to see if you're getting any errors, etc...

Ok I have done that now but it seems normal...it says "getting new email....1 of 12:mail name..bla bla". But it seems that it don't gets downloaded =/

I have had the same problem with the new mail.app.

I have Comcast broadband, so I went the Comcast site to access my email via web browser. I had 10-12 emails still sitting there that were never picked up by Mail. So I deleted them a few at a time and tried Mail again after every delete. Eventually Mail started to work again and picked up the rest of the mail from Comcast's server.

I think there are certain emails that Mail doesn't like and will make it stop retrieving email based on some unknown error. I didn't pinpoint the exact email that may have caused this problem.

There have been numerous reports of problems using Apple's Mail program with Comcast. I have Comcast, but use Eudora and have never had a problem.

These are a couple items from MacFixIt;

Our investigation into Comcast mail retrieval issues (caused in some cases by problematic messages on the server that can be deleted through the Web interface) also led us to a potential problem with Mail.app when encountering certain types of large messages.
So it appears that there may be some messages that cannot be properly interpreted by Mail.app when using a POP account. If you think you might be affected by this issue, try logging into the Web interface for e-mail access (most Internet service providers offer this service) and check for mail that you have not received in your regular client.
Other readers report that rebuilding the Mail.app database (go to Mailbox > Rebuild) after deleting mail messages from the server was required for new mail to appear properly.
=================================
All Comcast users should make sure that if they are using Mail.app and receive large amounts of email or email with large attachments, to change the default preferences for deleting mail of off the server. The server can fill up and easily overrun your account limit. If you go over your limit you will be unable to receive mail or even send mail until your mailbox size is under the limits set by comcast...10MB per account. If you have relatives that send you pictures of their last vacation to French Lick, Indiana your mailbox space could disappear, as the saying goes, "with the quickness"

None of this seems to work. I've tried everything. And I can't even open my mailbox. . The same problem excists on my brothers comp. And he has Telia for mail as I do. :mad:

Do you mean you can't open your mailbox in Mail or on the Comcast web site?

Try using Eudora and see if that works for you. You can download a Mac version for free from here;

http://www.eudora.com/download

It will only take a few minutes to setup.
