can't search connected server units

Hello Folks,
I have some users in a workgroup that can't search connected server units. It's 2 out of 6 that suddenly has lost the ability. They all have the same rights on the OS X 10.4.x server and they are alle running OS X 10.5.x Leopard on Mac Pro's.
If anyone have a clue as to what I can test or try out I know some very frustrated users that will be grateful.

The problem is the 10.5.6 update.
After updating the user cant' search 10.4.11 servers.
The problem is apparently an incompatibility, 10.4.11 use cat as search engine and 10.5 uses spotlight..... why this problem hasn't shown itself before I don't know. solution? upgrade server? other solutions? Will Apple fix this with the next update?
