Can't view "Shared" folder when connected to Network

Hey,

I'm connected via Airport to my company's wireless network. Last week I was able to connect to this network via my Macbook. Went home this weekend, come back and now I can connect and browse the internet, but I can't view the "Shared" folder with other people's public folders and shared files. Any idea what may be wrong?

Thanks

Open System Preferences->Network at look at the top of the pane. Make a 'New Location' (calling it work or anything you want) then set it up from strach and then hit "Apply".

Does your network (that you are connecting to) use a server? If so what server software? What version of OS X on what Mac are you using?

No, the network doesn't have a server. It's just a bunch of computers in an office with a common workgroup name. I'm running OS X 10.5.6

Ah ha. In System Preferences->Network click on the pane's 'Advanced' button. When the pop-down comes down click on the tab for "WINS". There put in you Workgroup name and save it.

It would help if you made that special "Work" Location to keep the Network settings different from your Home Network.

I'm attempting to do what you told me to, but I'm not really seeing any results. Creating a new location for "Work" doesn't really do anything, the network I'm connected to is the same as it was for "Automatic." With both I can browse the internet and whatnot, but I can't see any shared computers in Finder.

As far as the workgroup goes, I entered the name, and then there's the space for "WINS Servers." There's no server here, it's just a wireless network that assigns you an IP address.

Last night, hoping to end the problem, I went through a software update. I upgraded OS X to 10.5.7 and installed to Airport updates, figuring that might be the problem. After restarting the computer and everything, I connected to the network. After about 10 seconds with Finder open, all the "Shared" computers popped up and I was able to access all the files I need. Now I'm back this morning and no such luck.

This sucks.

Well make sure you are using the same time Server that the Windows computers are using. It sound like your Kerberos ticket has expired.

If so go to an unusual location at /System/Library/CoreServices/Kerberos and launch that program. If you have any tickets (once you disconnected from the workgroup) and delete the tickets you have. Once you do this reboot and then try to go back to the Windows networks.
