cd burner suddenly not recognized

I've burned a bunch of CDs on my PowerBook G4 (Tiger OS). I use iTunes to do the burning, and yesterday, when I clicked the "burn CD" option, it said, "Disc burner or software not found." What's up? By the way, it's a Matshita CD-RW CW-8123.

Any clues?

This has been posted hundred of times on this board. So do these steps in order:

1. Reset your Pram. If that doesn't work go to steps two.

2. Run a CD/DVD cleaning disk in the drive.

3. Take a can of compressed air (with the straw attached) and and tip you iBook to the side and blow the dust out of it (with the straw inserted to blow stuff out).

4. Try a different brand CDR or different software program to burn something to see if that works.

5. Replace the drive (buy from a store like this) or pay a place to fix it like this.

I don't want to burst your bubble here but with such and old Mac the chance of a hardware failure goes up much higher in percentage. That is just a fact of real life. Good luck.
