CD drive problem with my Mini Mac

Hi there,

Can anyone help!!! My CD drive on my new Mac Mini wont allow me to insert a disc. I had problems before ejecting Cds, and had to grab the tiny bit of disc that poked out before it would suck it back in again. Since doing this i can't insert any discs, it feels like something stopping it from going in the slot.

Thanks in advance
Paul

Restart the computer, and hold down the mouse button while it restarts and keep it held down. This will force the computer to do a CD eject.

It sounds like the CD drive thinks there's a CD in there when there's really not, and the mechanics of the CD drive may be positioned as if there were a CD in there, preventing the insertion of any CDs. Doing a "force eject" like stated above may get the mechanics and levers of the CD drive to return to a position where it'll accept CDs again.

Thanks for the tip, but ive already tried this without success. You're right it seems like the computer mechanics thinks there's a disc in there!!! Any other idea would be appreciated

Hmmm... any chance someone other than you put an odd-sized CD in the drive -- like one of those business-card shaped CDs or a small 3" CD? You can't use those kinds of CDs with slot-loading drives, so if someone shoved one of those in there, that would definitely cause the kinds of problems you describe.

Other than that, it sounds like the drive may have taken a turn for the worse and may need to be replaced. I don't have a Mac mini to check out -- is there a "manual eject" hole for the drive in a Mac mini?

Definately no odd shape discs in there, and as far as i can see there isn't a manual eject hole!......you may be right perhaps the drive is knackered!!....Great! Thanks for trying!
