cd goes gr gr gr

Every two minutes, I think it is my CD drive goes gr gr gr gr gr gr - six small grrs lasting maybe a half second spaced maybe a second apart. As far as I know, this started last night.

I have 17-inch "Early 2011" MBP and the latest software 10.7.2

Any ideas on what this might be or how to track it down?

Are you sure it's the CD drive doing that?
One of the two fans is quite close to the CD drive.
If you try an app that can control the fans, such as smcFanControl.
That can manually control each fan, and you will quickly rule the fans out.

I'm an idiot... It sounded so much like the CD head movement.

Anyhow, it was my phone in my backpack buzzing because I got a text message. It kept buzzing even when the laptop was shutdown...
