When I record music on CDs through iTunes I get good results and no problem with playback.
When I try to record data files (through burn folders etc.) I often run into problems. Worst of all when I have a succesful recording and try to read it from the same iMac it was recorded on I get an error message indicating that the computer does not recognize the disk and can't read it.
