CD Writer problem...

Hello everybody,

I need help

Last year I bought a 40x12x48 Teac Cd writer.
I installed it in a PowerMac G3/300 desktop (beige)
I'm still using system 9.2.2 and Roxio's Toast Titanium 5.1.1 recording software.

It worked without flaws until last month. It began aborting the recording of Audio CDs in random places when "Buffer Underrun prevention" was selected. but now it happens in all kinds of recordings (data or audio) at all speeds with or without buffer underrun prevention selected.

I get two kinds of error mesage. The most common being "Connection Unstable" and then a while after I click OK I get "The disc failed to be written".
The second error type is "Error, Sense Key=Medium Error, Sense Code=0x0C, Write Error". I got this error twice.

Note that the "Check Speed" test and the "Simulation Mode" test both came up OK every time.

The last time I tried writing a CD the "Connection Unstable" error showed but unlike other times the disc was not written at all, in fact I used the same disc in other writer in other computer with no problems.

Can anybody help me?

Thank you very much

The only thing I can think of is to check the jumper settings on the drive and make sure they match the CD drive you removed from the machine.

Also, are you sure that the Teac 40x12x48 supports buffer-underrun prevention?

about the.. Error, Sense Key=Medium Error, Sense Code=0x0C, Write Error
I used to get this a lot when i bought cheap dvd-r media off ebay. it was really hit or miss, sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't, and as the OS X updates climbed (10.2.6, 10.2.8) they stopped working completely with that error. I finally switched to Sony media, i figured it was a reputable name and hopefully it would work with my superdrive and Toast. It did, i have never gotten that error again. So my suggestion would be to try different media, as for the connection unstable i'm not really sure. But that would probably lead me to open it up and make sure everything is connected properly.

yes, because I've used that option ever since I installed it (and the manual agrees) until last month

Sony Media is the ONLY media I use.... I'm kind of a Sony Freak :)

UPDATE!

The CD-RW is dead, or dying. Now it does not recognizes any cd inserted, It does not appear on the finder, and Toast says "there's no CD in the Writer"

so, I'm taking it to technical service....

poor baby
