cdrw problems

i have an flat screen imac g4 and the cd drive is broken ,it opens and closes but thats all it does at the moment its an expensive cup holder.so i got an iomega cdrw honestly i dont know a damn thing about macs ,an whenever i try to burn something it uses the old broken cd-rom instead of the iomega one .i dunno any tips would be nice

What are you using to burn your CDs? For instance if you're using Toast you can chose which recorder to use by going to Recorder/Recorder Info, and the same with iTunes, go to Preferences/Advanced/Burning.
