CDs unrecognized in OS X

I've upgraded to OS X. Now when putting in older CDs, my computer no longer recognizes them. It used to recognize them before going to OS X. Is there a work around for this?
 
It is fine with most new software CDs and DVDs but data CDs or music CDs of various brands it does not recoginze. I even special ordered RIDATA brand CDs as I had read they never fail. They worked for months but now when I put those in they appear on the desktop but when I go to burn them I get the error message the operation could not be completed with error code 0x8002006D.
