Change of screen resolution on shut down

Hi!

I would appreciate if someone could help me with this little problem, more annoying then serious, I guess.

Suddenly, in the past month, in OS X, when I shut the computer down, all the applications shut down one after the other of course, including the last one: the Finder.
At that point the screen is completely blue... and then, just before the computer turns itself off, the screen resolution shifts from 1024 x 768 to 800 x 600.

Then later or the next day, when I power up again, it starts in 800 x 600 and I have to go to the system preferences to put it back at 1024 x 768. And the same process will start again on the next shut down.

I'm running OS X 10.2.1 on an iMac DV with 128 MB of RAM.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Back in my 10.1.x days (hee-hee-hee) I had weird display problems. One of Apples updated fixed it.

Perhaps you should update to 10.2.3? You never know, it might get fixed.

Kent!

it sounds like your screen preferences aren't being saved on logout. Might be a good idea to boot from your OSX install CD and run your disk repair, then the permissions fixer (which hopefully will fix this issue).
Upgrading to OSX 10.2.3 is a good idea too, if only for the extra boot you'll get from the new parts for your system.

I sometimes get screen (geometry) settings to change without any reason. Same, it occurs when I reboot. fsck and permission fix have not solved it out.

I want to thank each of you for your suggestions!

I will try them and come back to you with the results.

Thanks again.

I just found out that the Mac OS X update 10.2.3 is 60 MB.
Living out in the country, my top speed of communication is 28800 bps. I guess
I'll have to wait and download the update during the night.
I'll be back in 24 hours with the results.
In the meantime, thanks to you ksignorini, JeffCGD and toast.

P.S. I just noticed, toast, that you are from Grenoble. Je présume que tu es francophone... ça me fait plaisir! Salut à toi!

Salut biscotte, ya pas des masses de francophones ici mais quelques-uns quand même... Oui je suis Français, au milieu des Alpes grenobloises... tu es déjà venu visiter ?

Hi!

I finally finished upgrading to OS X 10.2.3 at 28,800 bps.

Unfortunately, it did not correct my problem. I also ran disk repair and permission fixer but to no avail.

If anybody has other suggestions to make, please do not hesitate. I will be listening! It is annoying to have to reset my screen resolution every morning.

Thank you all!

No, bobw, I do not have any game installed! This is a complete mystery to me!

But thanks for your concern. I guess I'll have to live with this annoyance. If I find a solution to this problem, I'll post it here, of course.

Thanks everybody!
