Changing Keychain Password

How do I change my keychain Password if I don't know what it is?

I got my new MacBook last week, and occasionally I am asked for a keychain password. According to what I've read my keychain password is also my login password, but my login password doesn't work! When I type in what I believe was the password it tells me that it is incorrect.

I may have made the problem worse, because I decided to change my master password with the OSX disc, but that hasn't helped me with the keychain password.

Also, does anyone know why Safari keeps asking me for my keychain password every two minutes. What's wierd is when Safari asks me for the keychain password, a dialogue box appears that lets me cancel the action, after I cancel I can continue surfing with Safari. Very annonying!

Please help this poor cowboy get his wild horse to cooperate.

Howdy cowboy,

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106156 has some ideas how to reset the password. So this should work for you :

Start up from a Mac OS X Install CD that came with the computer.
Hold the C key as the computer starts.
Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger). Tip: If you don't see this menu or menu choice, you're probably not started from the CD yet.
Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
Set the user name of your original administrator account.
Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually a reference to the root user. Do not confuse it with a normal administrator account.
Enter a new password.
Click Save.

Then :
restart the mac, log in.
Open Keychain Access (you can get to it by choosing Utilities from the Go menu in the Finder).
Then .. in that application, go from Keychain Access menu to > Keychain First Aid > select the account, and run repair.

Thanks so much for responding Giaguara. Sadly, I tried your suggestion and it didn't work.

Furthermore, (per the suggestion of the guys at the Apple Store) I tried repairing permissions and even an archive and installation but nothing seems to have cured my computers ills.

If anyone has any insights into this problem I'd be very grateful.
