Classic? (The 3rd party dockling)

simX

Unofficial Mac Genius
So I downloaded Classic 1.0.1, and I'm THRILLED that it's now a dockling! Woohoo! And the implementation of the gray 9 for not started up, the pulsing blue 9 with a progress bar for starting up, and a blue 9 for running is AWESOME. Now I'm just annoyed by the registration. :p

Whoever the developer was -- I think it was efoivx -- could you make it free to MacOSX.com forum users? :D That would be awesome.

Oh, and just to tell you -- your software was mentioned as very nice in one of the conferences I went to. I saw someone running the 0.3 version, not the Dockling. :) Classic Toggler was only mentioned as an alternative to Classic?. :D

I'll have to give it try again... i was using an earlier version of the app and it was buggy and caused problems with Classic.

Sounds nice, now, though.

Hey SimX, I agree, it **IS** awesome. I use it all the time (although, I am using the Classic Environment less and less thanks to more OS X Native apps). But, come on, support developers-- pay shareware fees. I paid the whopping $6.00 just the other day, as a matter of fact (paypal.com). It's quick, easy, and cheap as hell. Classic? is not only the only true dockling classic switcher, but it also allows you to "start up" and "shut down" the classic environment from within the dock! AND, displays a submenu of the active OS 9 Control Panels -- Niccce.

Luv it! Keep it up developers!

Yeah, OK. You're right. I just bought it since I do have a PayPal account. But I hate paying $7 here for this little app, $5 there, another $30 here... it all adds up. I like to support small developers, but there's a limit, and I'm a student, you know? :\

Yes, I understand; believe me. But my problem is with Microsoft and Roxio, etc. (full version of Toast = $99; upgrade = $79 ... are you kidding? It's STILL like having to pay retail again for an app that is not THAT much better than 4.0 and can be done for FREE in OS X (with limitations of course)). I'll pay $4 any day, but $40 or $400 -- now THAT's different. Come on Adobe, lower the price of Photoshop!!

OK, just two things about Classic? v.1.0.1 that I have found:

1) Is there a way to see if Classic is sleeping, and add a little icon for that on the Dockling? That would give it even more functionality. (If you didn't know that Classic could sleep, just go to the Classic pane, Advanced tab and you'll see it.)

2) It's weird, but the Dockling doesn't seem to "start up" all the time on the Dock. Almost all the time when I restart my computer and the Dock finally comes up, Classic? is stuck on it's Finder icon, and I have to restart the Dock to get it to work. My three other docklings seem to work perfectly on restart, so I think it has something to do with the Dockling. Any ideas?

Great software, and I used "simX@mac.com" to register Classic?.

We already had the idea to add indication for sleep. So far we have not been able to find a way to know if Classic is sleeping...

Stuck icon - not sure why this would be happenig to you. We use it on 3 machines in the studio and have about 20 beta testers. none arte having this problem.

Send me an email with your config.... All menu extras and dock extras you are using. Theres no way for them to conflict so that's not it... BUT one may be taking extra time to start... I know that if you use Slashdock and have many sites added this slows the systemuiserver startup. I know becuase my Slashdock has about 25 sites.

Cheers
Eddie

Have you tried to contact Apple? I am emailing with the developers of Pocketmac, an App which lets me synchronize me iPaq with MacOS X, and they told me that Apple is VERY helpful to OS X developers at the moment. And getting the status of a sleeping Classic environment is no big secret, I am sure they will help you.
