Clean up for sale

I'd like to clean up my G3 700mhz 55gb 10.3.11 for sale. How do I get rid of all my personal stuff, eliminate everything, then I guess reinstall what I want to go with the computer: the operating sys, perhaps Word, ILife. What's the best way to do this, to make sure there isn't anything left on the hard drive of mine.

Thanks.

Hello TuckerdocAVL ;) Did you realise you'd posted in a forum dedicated to members who do write ups on how to do stuff ... you can go into Edit and actually delete your post and repost in the correct forum .... just a friendly heads up :)

Hi Tucker,

np - forwarded to the correct part of forum here.

Save all the data you want for youself.
Then boot to Mac OS X install disc, and select Disk Utility (from Utilities menu.. or look under menus to find it), and select an erase of the hard drive, depending on how paranoid you are, 1, 7, or 35 or whatever times it suggests.
After that is done, just install the system fresh.

I'd do the 7-times erase, but the 35-times just takes too much friggin' time and IMHO isn't worth it. Without a *serious* amount of effort, a user won't be able to retrieve files after the 7-times erase.

Hi. Thanks for the info. Re: the move? where did the post go? I was also trying to find a place to put it that was appropriate and it (the how to) though it is mostly about how tos seemed to be logical, since that was what I was asking. :-)

If I'm up to 10.3.9, but started with 10.3, will I run into any booting problems? And, I assume, once I've done this I get the "Welcome" screen? Do I just shut down there? So, should I sell the computer, the person will get that screen, and be able to put in what he/she wants, correct?

How would I get anything else preloaded on the computer? Or, is that not possible?

PS I found the forum it was moved to. Thanks.

When you get to the Welcome to Mac OS X .. create your user-screen, you can just shut down the computer. The new user will continue from that point and create that user for him/herself.

As stated in the sticky threads, the HOW-TO and FAQ section is for posting tutorials and FAQs on how to do something, not asking on how to do something. Asking on how to do something is basically what happens on every other section of the forum if you think about it. ;)
