Cleaning my filthy Keyboard.

Because it kinda needs it. I have a real dust issues and I also have a dog. So because Apple's keyboards are see through I can see all that dust and hair smiling back at me. Anyway, she needs to be cleaned so I wanted to ask is there anyone who cleaned theirs before? I want to take it apart to clean it good but don't know where I should be careful and things so if anyone has some advice please share. Thanks.

lol, i tried that, and now my enter, and "." keys don't work in the right corner. So try at your own risk, some cleaner stuff kilt the connectors for those keys or something.

Avoid using liquids. No water, no solvents or cleaners.

I'd suggest getting one of those keyboard cleaner fittings for a vacuum cleaner, and then running it slowly and gently between the keys.

If, and only if, that doesn't do a good enough job, then you can take the keyboard apart carefully and wipe it down with a dry, fine cloth.

office supply and computer supply stores (at least around here) always sell cheap cans of compressed air as 'keyboard cleaners.' they normally have a pretty thin straw on the air exhaust - and you can get dust out of your keyboard that way (although crudely...).
symph - do they really have keyboard adapters for vacums? would just a smaller vacum head work?

it wasn't hard taking mine apart, just got careless cleaning the keys and spilt some solution and after i put it all back together, those 2 keys didn't work. Took it apart again, same thing. It was clean, minus 2 keys.

i followed this guy's instructions and my keyboard looks good as new! it does involve taking all of the keys off first, so make sure you're prepared to do that =). there was no risk involved, really... just be patient and be willing to sacrifice the better part of an hour doing it.

Oooo, this looks good. I haft to read it tomorrow and see if it's anything I can handle.

I have cleaned keyboards and will never do so again. What I will do is do the vacuum and air can technique to get the big stuff. But if you really need to de-gunk it, forget it. Buy a new one...it's just not worth it.
