Cleaning Superdrive on PowerBook G4

I have a Powerbook G4 with a Superdrive, and it dawned on me recently that I often use rental DVDs as well as CDs, and this must be bringing in a lot of foreign dirt, dust, etc. into my precious SuperDrive.
My questions are:

How often should I clean the Superdrive?
And what should I clean it with?

I have heard stories of people making things worse by using the wrong or cheap cleaning types.

Any advice would be extremely welcome.
Thanks

Your best prophylaxis is cleaning rental/library discs
before inflicting them on your drive. Cures a lot of ills.

I wait until I see what appears to be a tracking problem
on a known good disc, then throw in a lens cleaner from
Radio Shack. No set schedule.

Thanks Al

I always clean discs, but am pretty sure that on some of them some grime will survive.
I guess I am unsure about:

-When I do need to clean, what sort of cleaner is best? [no Radio Shacks in UK!]
-Does a DVD cleaner do the same as a CD cleaner [or do you need to use both]
-And is a microfibre cloth the best way of cleaning CDs/DVDs?

Thanks!

No Radio Shacks in UK? Sure there are -- called Tandy. Pardon my
parochialism.

I see little difference, except the DVD versions have graphics.

Microfibre (Gotta love that "re" but then y'all had the language first)
best? It is for my LPs. I've two cleaners -- a velvet and a chamois.
I think the chamois is better simply because a CD/DVD is a flat
surface, and the chamois gives full contact.
