Clear Office from drive??

Okay this is a strange one...

The company I work for purchased a copy of Office X for the office. Three copies in all. One for my laptop, workstation and another for another workstation.

This was a few months ago installs went fine on my laptop (Ti Book 10.2) and on my G4 tower. The other copy wasn't installed until this week becuase the guy wasn't fully ready to transition all his appz to OS X yet.

Upon installation everything seemed to be working out fine... He launched Entourage to complete the installation code for the first run. It launched and worked fine.

But when he tried to launch PowerPoint, Excel or Word the program starts to launch but then 'unexpectedly quits'.

I thought for sure it was a drive issue, he has been having them all day.

But then I returned to my desk and tried to launch Powerpoint and got the same thing!

My concerns are that we did one of two things...

A) mistakenly installed the same serial # on both towers
B) Powepoint, Word and Excel have never worked on my machine (Since I don't primarily use these apps on a frequent basis.

So I figured a re-install was called for. Backed up my mail and off I went to the install disk.

After an install the same thing occurs...

So I tried clearing every trace of Office on my machine that I could find... reinstalling and checking the results.... same thing happened.

I even tried updating the Office programs, which happens without incodent, but the applications will not launch... Word, Excel, and PowerPoint don't launch!

On my laptop everything works fine... I know it's not an os thing because I've just recently updated the os on my laptop... and it worked fine on 10.1.5 as well.

Anyone seen this before? How can I uninstall all of the components of Office on my HD?

try unplugging from your network and open the app. If it does the same thing then it's probably not a serial# issue.

I tried that... and the same error occurs..

the splash screen pops up for a second, then just when the menu items would load the OS error pops up...

Which is why I thought a clean install of the programs would work. But I can't seem to isolate where the problem is upon startup.

My thought is that some file is conflicting with the programs when they launch... some file outside of the M$ Office folder. But the program has installed with success before... and on the same machine... so why all of the sudden is it NOT working?

Anyone have a thought on this?

search for a file which's name contains both Office and PID, trash those. the you'll be able to re-enter reg. info...

Thanks DMCrimson,

I'll give that a shot... however I am thinking that the error, whatever it is may not be a serial conflict.

In fact I'm almost 100% possitive it's not.

Only one copy of this application exists on the LAN.

My guess is that something went wrong on the install, which is why I attempted to re-install the applications, but with no luck.

I figured there was some trace file out there preventing the application startup.

Considering Excel, Word, and PowerPoint probably all share common files, I assumed it was in the application folder, but it's not.

Right now I'm in a position where the lack of Office on my computer is really creating issues.

The company I work for submits all requested changes in Excel. I have had to transfer these requests to my laptop, open them then copy out cell-by-cell the requested data changes (i.e. paragraph long links).

It's very much a pain.

I know it may not get everything, but why no mention of Remove Office (part of Value Pack)? The only other thing I had to remove myself afterwards was the ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder.

The most common cause of this program is corrupted fonts, often in the Classic system folder. Another possible cause is the ToastVideoCDcomponent extension in /Library/QuickTime. That's the easiest to "fix" - just remove it,
To check on fonts, try using a utility like FontDoctor (if you have access to one). Otherwise, you'll have to remove fonts from their default locations, see if the problem goes away, and then start adding them back in one at a time.

The thought of fonts never even crossed my mind... I don't know why... I should have thought of that... I'll look into the font issue.

This would explaine why my laptop is workng just fine and the g4 tower isn't. I don't have extra fonts installed on my laptop... but I do on my g4 tower.

Thanks, I'll look into that and get back to you guys...
;)

Futura please go away!

Well it was a font problem... and many thanks to all that helped me out with this issue... especially genghiscohen who suggested I look at fonts..

Excel, Word and PowerPoint WORK!! ;) :p :D !

Jeee!!! Cybergoober, funny thing, I know of it but did not have any memory of it:) Thats definitely one of the best ways to remove Office in whole...

I found no file.

I'm also trying to clear a serial. Two machines ended up with the same on and it's causing issues.

Any other ideas to clear the serial?
