clearing inactive memory in 10.2.1

i just got some extra memory for my g4 867 (now 512), and its a bit
snappier. Ive noticed that when it is running for a while, the amount of
inactive used memory increases over time. Im using aquamon to
monitor things on the computer.

Is there an advantage to purging the memory or is cached data
stored here?

I thought that the inactive memory starts getting used as you start running more apps and helps the apps launch faster after they've been launched for the first time. That was my understanding anyway. I could be wrong.
