Clicking Sound from Powerbook

Hi,

My G4 Powerbook makes a clicking sound when it boots up. Sometimes it boots up and sometimes it doesn't. Is this due to a bad hard drive? If so, what hard drive would you recommend? Is it also easy to replace?

Sounds very much like the HD is about to fail, a regular clicking sound about 6 second intervals are definitely a sign. I would back up everything onto an external drive using Carbon Copy Cloner asap. (Free from http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html ).

It's not for the faint hearted though.

Yes, backup now, backup now, backup now before you regret it when the hard drive fails.

Also, if you don't have an external drive, at least back up all your files that are important to you. Move them to a CD or DVD now, before things take a turn for the worse. Better yet, if you have other machines on a network, move your files quickly to one of them.
