Columns in OpenOffice-NeoOffice Writer

I created a two column page in Writer. However I cannot move the cursor to the second column. Mousing over it etc. does not seem to work. Any ideas?
 
Those are normal text columns, and not a chart or graph, right?
I don't think you can use the second column independently of the first column. It's purpose is providing space for text.
What happens when you fill the first column with text? You should see the second column begin to fill. At that time, with text in that second column, you would be able to move the cursor to that second column.
Is this something different than you expect?
