Combo-drive And Dvd-burner No Longer Recognized

hello,
I've got a Powermac G4 (1,25Ghz - 1 processor) with OS10.3.2 installed. Suddenly the computer won't recognize my combo drive, nor the third-party DVD-burner. I didn't install anything particularly the days before. And they have been working together for more than a year now. The problem occured once before, but restarting the mac resolved the problem at that time. I did that about ten times now, but no good.
Is this a problem that sounds familiar to anyone?
thanks

hmmm. I think I know by now. the flat cable relying the optical disks to the computer seems to be damaged. so if you got a similar problem, open your machine first.

Did changing the cable help?

I have the exact same problem with a 1 GHz Powermac G4 with a combo drive. Turning it on and off and on and off and removing and inserting the ribbon cables seem to help, but I have not figured out where the problem is. And my cables look good...

The following is from the PatchBurn read me.

Program Use
This program generates and installs so called device profiles for CD/DVD-burners that are available on Mac-OS X systems. This allows many, otherwise unsupported burners to be used directly with Mac-OS X, iTunes and DiscBurner.

I think I screwed up and listed the wrong URL..It should be
http://www.patchburn.de/

Let us know how you make out..

Underdog, the Combo drive was installed by Apple when the machine was assembled, so it is definitely supported. It seems like other people have had similar problems caused by IDE master/slave settings, so that is what I will try next.

wimmm, did the new cable do the trick?
