Computer doesn't "Chime" at startup

I upgraded my software on my G4 to OS x 10.4.6, everything worked fine for about a month. When I startup my Mac no longer "Chimes", all the programs seem to be working fine, but wondering what would cause the "chime" to quit.
All other sounds work fine. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
