it seems to lock up and gets kind of gray and pulls up this power button looking thing on the screen and is like you need to reboot your computer

its pertty random

It's called a kernel panic. Usually a hardware-related crash. (Also, kinda like a good-looking "blue screen of death" if you've used Windows.)

What model computer is it? If it's a new computer, you might look into returning it for a new one. Otherwise have you changed any settings or installed any new software lately?

Nope, i sure havent its a brand new dual G5.

hm a kernel panic aye. ill go poke through the logs it be cute if it told me that in the first place LOL

What do you have plugged in to it in the way of devices. An old set of speakers, or floppy drive will cause the panic.

i am not seeing anything in system logs that shows a kernel panic but i assume os x might do it differnt. i have isight hooked up and thats about it. When this happens and i am out at work when i come back its crashed and for some reason you can hear the fans going full blast.

Any ideas?

Run Disk Utility on your permissions, then get MacJanitor and run it. Fixed up my G5 real quick!

I've got this problem, if I try to double click or access anything the message comes up and I have to restart :(

Yeah, Paul, but yours is due to your new processor upgrade, isn't it? His is a brand-new machine. Those will be two completely different fixes.
