Computer shuts down while in use

When I use the sleep button the computer shuts down completely. Also while using it - it will shut down on me. It is very hard to get it to turn back on.

Computer is a G4 with 1 gig memory, running System 9.2 and Jaguar 10.2. This has happened all this week. Don't know where to start looking for the problem.

When you say "sleep button", do you mean the power button on the front of the computer?

Check your power settings in system preferences.

Also - G4 could apply to many different macintosh computers
- is it a tower computer or a laptop computer?

I click the sleep mode under the apple icon. It will then completely shut down instead of sleep. But has recently shut down on its own when on the internet and while using different software programs. It is a G4 tower. I have to hold the on button for quite a while before it will then turn back on and twice after turning it on it immediately shut down on me. I did check all my settings, before writing in.
