I've searched and I've googled, but is there a way to confirm the build version of a Tiger DVD without installing first?

Thanks for any help or light someone may shed on this.

I've been lent a DVD-R with Tiger on it.

I want to take a look and install it on a temp firewire drive, but don't want to install it if it is an old build etc.

So how can I confirm that the DVD is of the latest build and not an early prerelease?

You are not supposed to lend any adc tiger builds. If the guy you got it from means anything to you, you should give it back to him and ask him to install it on your temp firewire drive over his own computer and present it to you on his own computer. This way you can test it and decide whether or not you gonna purchase tiger.
Additionally: who ever you got this DVD from should be able to tell you the build. It would be an issue, if you wouldn't know who created the DVD or the image. Such issues will not be discussed in this forum.

OK, fair enough.

Apologies for asking such a question, I just thought there would be a quick and simple text file to view or something :(

I understand your point. Changing an operating system is not an easy step. A demo would be very helpful but unfortunately there is none available.
I would suggest you to read some of our tiger threads in this forum and visit your next apple store to test it on the computers in the store. This will surely give you a good impression and clear if you should take the step or not.
