Connecting old imac (pre-Firewire) with Intel Imac

My venerable imac 350 is about to be put out to grass. Therefore I'm planning the migration of my images, music and other bits and bobs to the new machine.

Could anybody offer a more efficient route than my idea of copying my current Tiger Home folder via my 40gb ipod to the new imac (if that is a sensible/feasible option?)

Cheers

Chris

not really. The intel iMac should be autosensing, i.e. it'd make a crossover connection when directly connecting the two Macs. Then you "simply" act as if the intel iMac is the router. At least for the time of the copy process.

There is always the good included application -> /Applications/Utilities/Migration Assistant . Using the old iMac to the new Machine by putting the old iMac in Firewire target disk mode then running the new Mac's Migration Assistant. It is does a very good job.

That's how I initially copied everything off my iBook to my PowerBook (via a std ethernet cable) as well as when I copied things off the Beige G3 (definitely not auto-sensing) to the iBook a few years back.

iMacs in the current form factor (G5 or Intel) have the same auto-sensing ports as the laptops.
