connecting to hardware print server

i bought a new wired router with built-in USB print server. i was disappointed to find out that the clent software for the print server didn't come in any kind of *NIX flavors. just windows. it's a CompUSA brand router. here's a link: http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...10_100_Cable_DSL_Router_with_USB_Print_Server

is there any way to connect to my printer connected to the router using my macbook? it works fine as a router, but i'm new to the USB print server thing being built-in to a router.

While I'm reading the manual for the router, please tell me the printer brand and model. There are network driver issues for most non-postscript printers.

Well, the manual is pretty poor. It doesn't even state which protocol(s) is supported. However, by reading the windows setup procedure, I'm guessing it supports the IP > LPD protocol, and that the queue name is P1 (queue name is a setup detail that Windows setup software hides from users).

the printer is an HP Deskjet 932C. The router is actually made for CompUSA by Edimax (model BR-6104KP), which has open-source firmware. i've never messed with coding and compiling firmware, though.

Oh, good. OS X comes with an open source CUPS driver for you model - use HP Deskjet 900 Series, Gimp-Print.
Add > IP printer > LPD > enter IP (of the router) and queue name P1 > choose model> done.

it's not working. my router doesn't say anything about supporting LPD, just IPP and LPR. does that pose a problem? also, in the router config, there's a field to type in the Print Server name, which i just named PrintServ. Then there's a field for each USB port. my printer is connected to USB1, which i named LP1.

LPD is the same as LPR. IPP also requires the same queue name. Apparently, the user manual you have isn't available for download. You're going to have to experiment with queue name - USB1, LP1, P1, etc.

That's the same manual I looked at - no details about printing in it. Just installation of the PC "driver" - which is a misnomer - it's autosetup software.

If you have a PC to set up a printer on, that would be helpful. You can find out all the setup details in Printer Properties. PCs use the same protocols - they just have the setup details less organized than OS X.
