Connection to PC dropping

We've got 2 PCs and my Mac on our network. All our music is stored on a desktop PC running Windows 2000 Pro and I'm using 10.3.2. Running iTunes with music on the PC is fine and I can generally copy files between machines but there's a big problem when using Panther's network browser. I have a few aliases to shared folders on the PC that allow me to connect with no problems but when using the Finder to browse volumes instead of doing Connect to Server or aliases, the connection drops randomly and usually requires a restart. My friend brought his PowerBook (12", running 10.3) over tonight and he's been having the same problem. It also seems to happen when browsing my flatmate's laptop (running XP Home)

Have any of you guys had difficulties with networking like this in Panther? Any ideas whether it's a problem in OSX or Windows 2000?

Cheers,
Craig

yea i think there is some improvement needed with the finder network browsing in panther. i've had difficult with it, not necessarily dropping the connection but just wierdness/brokenness. I've just decided only to use the Go, Connect to Server feature instead. That is still working for me.
