Continual freezing

Hi, I've got a graphite G4 Tower, Sawtooth/AGP w/756 Mg RAM, and an ugraded (Daystar) 1.5 GHz processor, and two 80G HDs.

It always ran smoothly is OS 9, but freezes a lot in OS X. Even after upgrading from 10.3.9 to 10.4.7, even after a clean install, even without any programs loaded, it will freeze-up hard on me (cursor doesn't move, clock stops, keys don't work) and force me to hit the power button.

OS X is on it's own hard drive. The computer still works fine on the OS 9 hard drive. It passes every test in tech tool 4, and once I used Memtest to check the RAM, and everything seems to pass. Still, it freezes. I don't know whether it's hardware or software based, and am about ready to chuck the whole thing.

Any hints?
Thanks,

I also have the same problem with the same set-up. The only exception is that my processor is the original one. 756 megs of ram and 2 - 80 gb internal drives.

I have ran tests from Techtool to disk utilty and memory tests. Ran programs like Cocktail to clear logs etc.

I have unhooked all periphials, pulled ram mods (even though they tested good), checked the battery, set the PRAm, pushed a reset button in the mac, etc.

Mine started with just web browsers crashing anmd progressed badly from there to other programs crashing and then to the system locking up.

I even formatted one of my drives and installed my OSX fesh and ran the updates. Then the only program I installed was Firefox and 5 minutes into my session it quit. Then the next day it started locking up the system.

I am down to figuring it is the vido card since it only has 16 megs of ram on it.

To solve my issue (which we were going to do anyway but we finally saved the cash) we ordered a 20" IMAC today, will be in next week.

I am going to pull one drive out of the G4, reformat back to an earlier OSX (perhaps 10.1) and see how it works. It is to bad as this G4 has given me 7-8 years of great service and I do a lot of digital work with it.

I know this does not help fix anyone else's issues but to what it helps you are not alone.
