Controlling a Mac remotely via the Internet

Is it possible to administer a Mac remotely over the internet?

I am going away from home with my laptop and I want to access my home computer, and basically do what Apple Remote Desktop can do. Is this possible?

I have read about Apple Remote Desktop ut it doesn't say anything about using it over the internet.

Anyone know?

Read this:

Although, a bit complicated for non-Unix people  , after a few tries you may actually find yourself using ONLY this method ;)

A piece from there:
"If you're running Mac OS X, you'll be able to accomplish everything in this article without buying a single piece of software. As a bonus, you can also perform most of these tricks on the Mac you're sitting at right now. (Even though that wouldn't actually be remote controlling, now would it?)"

Apple's Remote Desktop it IS actually for Internet access too, at least according to Apple here:

Attached picture from there...

One other solution to your needs may as well be the Timbuktu Pro from here:

Nice reading and I hope that you will find what you are really looking for :D

yes apple remote desktop does work over the internet, I know because I have done it. Of course if you have a router, you have to forward a port to the mac that you will be remote desktoping to... and you will need to remember your IP so you can use it on the road, or use dyndns.org to create an easier to remember address...

VNC would work just as well, and as bobw pointed out, it's free... :)
