I am in the process of setting an account for my 7 year old on my iMac 20", and have some questions...

- How do I make it so the Safari Window is Open when he logs in?
- How do I control the sites he can access via Safari?
- How do I turn off access to Email?

Thanks for any ideas on this... Did a search, and most of the posts seemed over my head, or not these simple questiosn I have...

Thanks -

Log-in into the account, of whom 'Safari' is to automatically launch (open, run) at log-in, and perform the five (5) steps below.
]

01. Launch 'System Preferences' ('/Applications/' folder, or 'Apple, System Preferences...' menu item).
02. Select the 'Accounts' utility.
03. Click on 'Click the lock to make changes' lock icon (and enter required information into the 'Authenti.
04. Click on 'Login Items' tab ('Tiger', MacOS X 10.4.x assumed since no version was provided).
05. Drag 'Safari' icon (from '/Applications/' folder) into the list below 'These items will be open automatically when you log in.'.

It all worked except #4 above... I can do this step on my account (admin), but not on my sons account... That option of "Login Items" tab is missing...

I set it for my account, works great - but can not set for my sons account...

almost there, any other ideas on this?

It appears you do not have 'Tiger' MacOS X 10.4.x installed.

Please provide the explicit model Mac (for example: 'PowerMac G4 AGP') and MacOS X version (for example: 'MacOS X 10.3.4').

Apple adds or removes 'PreferenecesPanes' (official name of 'System Preferences' utilities), and / or adds, changes, or removes features of individual 'PreferencesPanes'. Therefore, it is important to know which MacOS X version is installed on your unknown model Mac.

To determine the MacOS X verison on your Mac ... select the 'Apple, About This Mac' menu item. Beneath 'Mac OS X' is the explicit version number.

To determine the Mac's model ... open 'System Profiler' ('/Applications/'Utilites/' folder), etc..

If ... you are using 'Panther' (MacOS X 10.3.x), in place of 'login Items' will be 'Startup Items'. The placement of its features are different than those of 'Tiger' (MacOS X 10.4.x).

10.4.5

iMac G5
PowerMac8,2
PowerPC G5 (3.1)
2.0GHz

I continued to try more last night, and can not make that option show up (Login Items)... I must be missing something basic...

You have to be logged into the account that you are setting the startup items for, I believe. Just click the lock when you are done to prevent more changes.

Correct. You have to be logged in as your son's user to change his login items. Just use YOUR name and password when it asks for administrator authentication.

The reason for this is that login settings are stored inside the user's account. And OS X doesn't grant permissions to alter a user account while logged in as another user. Not even the Admin. It's a security thing.
