Convert OS9 to OSX?

I've just acquired an iMac with OS9 on it, but want to flatten it and install OSX onto it. Can I just insert the OSX disc into the Mac and install it this way, or do I need to uninstall OS9 first. If so, how do I do this? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Start up from the X cd and format the drive (if you need anything, make sure you back it up). When you're done formatting, simply install....

thanks for the replys.
Will i have to hook up my OS9 to the net to update the firmware first, then format it, and then install OSX.2 afterwards?
And.....this might sound stupid, but i'm still learning and getting a feeling for macs, but how do i format it after inserting the OSX.2 install disc?
Thanks

From memory, you start up with the installer CD by holding the C key after reboot. When the Installer is launched, select "Disk Utility" from the menu and use that to format the drive.

Cheers for all tha advice, but i think i've got a bigger problem. I've just discovered that my mac is OS9.0.........i've got a 9.2.1 update disc and the 2 OSX.2 disc. My problem now is, i can't update the firmware without having at least OS9.1. So i tried to update my OS9 to OS9.2.1 with the update disc, but guess what? i need to have at least OS9.1 to do this!
I've tried to open the "disc utility" from the installer of OSX.2 disc but with no success. Does anybody have any suggestions for my problem. If it means keeping the Mac on version 9 then i will do. So my next question regarding this is do you know of any wireless adapters (preferably USB) that would be suitable for OS9.0 that works on 802.11g settings rather than the 802.11b setting.

And to top all of this off........i can't get the disc out of the machine now!!!!!!!!!

Again, thank you for your knowledge and patience
