Convert VHS tapes to DVDs for archiving

I have a lot of old vhs video tapes that I want to convert to dvds so I don't lose what is on them.

What are some of the setups you guys have used and what hardware to capture the video with and what software are needed to do this with. I want this to be as simple and cheap as possible but I also want it to be high quality. I guess as high quality as vhs tapes converted to dvds can be.

I will be using a G4 cube 450 with OSX 10.2.2 and 640 mb ram. I have an external dvd-r drive.

hello -- i use a formac studio dv/tv -- you can check their site http://www.formac.com -- their software let's you import analogue input in programs like final cut pro or imovie -- to turn them into dvd, i use apple's dvd studio pro -- there's also the free iDVD of course, but this only runs if you have dvd-hardware - hope this helps
