I have an imac OS 9.2.2 and would like to transform it into an OS X.
Is there any possibility to get a free mac OS X download that I can get through the Internet ? Many thanks for any advise. Abdoulaye

Not a chance. Mac OS X costs money. It's a retail product. What model iMac do you have. We need to determine what versions of Mac OS X your Mac supports.

There isn't a legal, free download of Mac OS X out there.
But depending on your hardware, you can still probably get Mac OS X cheaply there - first we'll need to see what type of iMac you have (MHz, model, how much RAM and how big HD) to see what is the newest possible system for that Mac. And then need to find the install discs (amazon, ebay etc as probably you'll need something older than what's currently on the market) and possibly more RAM or a bigger drive.

MacOS 9.2.2 and MacOS X are two completely different operating systems. You cannot transform one into the other. What you can do is to install MacOS X over MacOS 9. This will allow you to boot into either OS and even to use your current installation of MacOS 9.2.2 as your Classic environment.

As others have stated, MacOS X is a commercial OS. In order to install it on your computer, you are legally required to purchase a retail copy of the OS. That said, there are some hardware requirements and recommendations:
  • RAM: 256 MB required, 512 MB or more recommended
  • HDD: 6 GB required for MacOS X 10.3, 50 GB required for MacOS X 10.4 fully loaded, 120+ GB recommended
