Cool Software Update click spot

Maybe this is old news but I found a secret click spot that makes inactive udates appear on the Software Update app. Here:

Yeah, I vaguely remember Apple adding the ability to access previous updates awhile ago in case you needed to for some reason or another.

This is probably a really simple question, but how do you make updates inactive? I dont have an airport or and ipod(yet!!!! - the new ipods look cool) so I dont want the updates.
