What are my options for archiving the contents of a PPC 7500 hard drive onto an imac G5; I'd really rather not be burning a pile of CDs? The 7500 has lifetime free Apple support but they're being less than helpful.

Those two machines are very, very different. I'm not sure if they have one port in common.

But anyway, if I were you, I would invest in an external hard drive enclosure with USB2/FireWire. Remove the 7500's hard drive, place it in the case, and plug the case into the iMac. I'm not sure if you can see a system 7 disk on OS X (never tried it), but I know you can see an OS9 disk. You could do what you like from there.

I just wanted to state that that's one port they _do_ have in common. ;) ... Yeah: Simply connect them directly (the new Mac at least does auto-crossover) with a network cable, turn on file-sharing on the 7500 and browse that machine from the new Mac.

the network is the best idea, i did it all the time. as far as the usb enclosure, it'll be kinda hard to do. the ppc7500 is scsi. and the only scsi/usb enclosure i've seen was very expensive. and that was long, long ago.
