Copying DVD movies to harddrive

Is it possible to copy a DVD movie to the harddrive so that it can be played back, and if so, how?

I had seen a thread in this forum, but am unable to find it now.

Is this a Mac program, and will it do a bite-for-bite copy to a DVD as well as to a CD? If so, where can I find it. Thanks for the reply.
